When I was contacted by Mixes from the Heartland to review some of their Gluten Free products, I of coarse said YES!! Since my 2 year old is now on a gluten free diet, I was happy to try out some of their mixes.
More about Mixes from the Heartland:
Located in the panhandle of Texas, Amarillo is the home of Mixes From The Heartland, Inc. (MFTH) and the birthplace of an entirely new line of Gluten Free Mixes - Food products. MFTH will soon explode onto the market where we will have a revolutionary new line of Gluten Free Mixes and Sugar Free Mixes /Gluten Free Mixes -Food products.
I love that this is a local company as I live in El Paso, TX. Okay maybe not so local, but at least in the same state. HaHa It makes me feel great that there is a place right here in Texas that takes special care and offers such a wide variety of Gluten Free products.
I received a box with a mix of products, including Chicken Veggie Soup, Banana bread, Strawberry pound cake, and a few others. First on my list to try was the chicken veggie soup. I have always heard that pasta made to be gluten free has an odd taste, so I was not sure what to expect. What I had heard was proven wrong with the first bite of this soup. The pasta is wonderful!! I did use some chicken broth as it stated on the package that you can replace 2 cups water with 2 cups chicken broth for a richer flavor. It is really hard to get every member of my family to eat the same thing for dinner, but to my surprise EVERYONE cleared their bowls. My husband thought that it needed celery, but other than that he actually liked it. I loved how easy it was to provide a great meal for my family. All I had to add to the mix was water and chicken. Well that and the chicken broth that I added!

Since I use cloth diapers and sposies Our go to brand is Pampers. In fact we just bought a box 2 nights ago to use during our vacation. So when I found out about the New Cruisers and Swaddlers with Dry Max I just had to let my readers know. There is also a bonus at the end of this post. Sign up for a free 3 pack sample and you have a chance at winning a year's supply of Pampers diapers.
About Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers with Dry Max:
Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers with Dry Max are our new high performance diapers and the biggest innovation for the Pampers brand in the last 25 years. Pampers has invented the Dry Max technology to improve the current Swaddlers and Cruisers core. The Cruisers diaper is 20 percent thinner. This hard-working diaper helps lock wetness in and is Pampers' driest diaper ever.
What does this mean for baby?
They are our driest diapers ever and the new, revolutionary Dry Max™ technology helps lock wetness in for up to 12 hours. So if your baby is like mine and can easily sleep 10+ hours at night, you would not have to worry as much if they will wake up with soaked bedding. The new thinner core gives baby freedom to move and play with all-around softness to keep him comfortable so playtime never ends.
A Little more about the diaper:
New Dry Max technology - our driest ever - to help lock wetness in up to 12 hours.
Twenty (20) percent less bulk, making it Pampers' thinnest diaper and our driest ever. Softer outer cover for comfort inside and out. Tapered design. Sesame Street® characters (Sesame street® is a licensed character with Pampers in North America)
Will be offered for the same price as current Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers (Pricing is at the sole discretion of the retailer.)
What is this Dry Max technology?
Dry Max describes the new "engine" or core of Cruisers and Swaddlers diapers.
It allows for the removal of the airfelt ("paper pulp") found in current Swaddlers and Cruisers, resulting in a thinner and less bulky core. Currently, Pampers is the only brand with this technology on the market. The thinner core is enabled by the new Absorbent Gelling Material (AGM), removing the need for airfelt. The AGM is more permeable, meaning it locks wetness in faster than previous AGM.
When are you going to be able to buy the swaddlers and cruisers with Dry Max?
Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers with Dry Max will be available at mass, discount, baby specialty, grocery and eRetail stores where Pampers products are sold beginning March 2010.
Now for the fun part!!
To celebrate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Pampers® Diapers has partnered with Team USA to introduce new Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers Diapers with Dry Max. Thats right the babies of the athletes are sporting the new Pampers with Dry Max Technology and a very suitable design.
Starting January 29th, parents everywhere will be able to request a free sample three-pack of Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max on pampers.com If the sample sent includes a diaper stamped Team USA (randomly inserted in select sample packs), their baby will win a year's supply of Pampers diapers!
Samples will go fast and Good Luck, you never know maybe one of you will have that stamped diaper in your sample and win a nice supply of Pampers diapers.
I was given the information from pampers to share with my readers. No compensation was offered or accepted.

Oh Yes you read that right, the title has that wonderful word in it. Mmmm Chocolate!
Now I will be honest and say that I am more of a white chocolate kind of girl, although I LOVE all chocolate. Ha Ha Guess what? This book includes all types of chocolate throughout the recipes.
When I found out about a chance to review this book I don't think it took me more than 2 seconds to think about it. I am so glad I choose to review this book. Come on the title has two very important words in it, 1. Chocolate and 2. Love!
Chocolate A Love Story is a book which has 65 chocolate dessert recipes from none other than Max Brenner's private collection. In this book you can find a chocolate treat for any occasion, from breakfast to finding the right chocolate treat when you need a comforting hug.
Not only are the recipes amazing, the artwork for this book was done by Yonatan Factor. Each and every page has artwork that catches your eye and jumps right out of the book.
My kids thought that I made a great banana split but there is something about Banana split with caramel disco, chocolate punk sauce and roasted macadamia minimalism that kicks Mom's banana split to the curb.
We tried several of the recipes in this book and while it is obvious what the kids loved, my husband and I have a few favorites. One of them is the Home industry chocolate cheese pockets.
Chocolate A Love Story
Buy the Book:
You can buy this chocolaty book at
Amazon.com for around $20
No matter what type of chocolate you crave, you will find a recipe in this book that can satisfy that chocolaty craving.
I was sent by accident 2 copies of this book, so I am offering my wonderful readers a chance to win a copy of Chocolate A Love Story. Remember to leave your email address in your comment, so I have a way to get into contact with you should you be the winner. This giveaway will close on Feb. 14th at midnight my time. (mountain time) Winner will be chosen by random.
Tell me in a comment what your favorite chocolate treat is.
1. Become a follower of my blog and let me know in a comment. If you are already a follower, just let me know.

Before the baking
After 5 hours of cutting, piecing, frosting, and decorating. Everything that is not flat is made out of the rice crispy treat.
This one gives you an idea of just how big the cake was.
The best part and the part that made me feel better about taking 5 hours to make her cake was when I had asked her if this guitar cake was better than the rectangle cake she had asked for. She said and I quote "It is wicked better"..

I make it no secret that the kitchen is my absolute favorite room in my house. There is just something about baking and cooking and providing good food for my family that puts a smile on my face.
Another thing that should come as no big shock is that my favorite books are cookbooks, I know I can just do a search online for recipes and believe me I do, but I love to look through a book and find a recipe that sometimes comes along with a story.
How To Roast A Lamb by Michael Psilakis really does fit into the cookbook tells a story category. I love that this book is not really split up by chapters or by item, instead the book is split up by dinners, with names such as, Big-Party Cooking and Dinner Family Style. With this book it does not matter if you are a beginner cook or an expert in the field, you are sure to find a few recipes to fight your lifestyle.
I am more of a simple cook and I tend to make what some call comfort food. Even though the recipes range from stuffed peppers to beef stew to octopus with chickpea salad, I was able to find plenty of recipes to try out. One of our favorites and one that I have made a few times now is Beef Stew with Leeks. Amazingly enough 4 out of the 5 of us that eat real food (my 9 mth old isn't quite there yet) loved this. A very rare occurrence around here.

Bare Escentuals Asks What You're RETHINKING For 2010
Rethink what a revolution looks like, from going bare in public to what freedom feels like. Bare Escentuals, the mineral makeup pioneer, invites you to shake up that foundation and sound off on topics that are more than just skin-deep with their new campaign, Rethink What Matters.
Born from employees rethinking makeup itself – the beauty brand found looking good is not about using artificial gunk to cover imperfections, but about enhancing what you’ve got. In keeping with their wink-wink approach to marketing (Love MATTE Campaign), Bare Escentuals unveils playful taglines to help start honest conversations with your girlfriends. bareMinerals SPF15 Foundation feels completely weightless, but gives you all the flawless coverage you need. Like you are wearing nothing at all.”
Bare Escentuals invites you to give rethinking a try, too. Every week at ReThinkWhatMatters, a new discussion topic will be featured with five questions for you to answer and share with your friends by email, Facebook and Twitter.
Bare Escentuals will also be taking its message to the streets by dispatching Quickie Vans within select cities. Each van will feature a tagline (for instance, Rethink Going Bare In Public) to grab the attention of passers-by and pop up into a mini boutique with a team offering “make-unders” and samples. So stop by and "Rethink the quickie" for an impromptu make-under.
Head over to ReThinkWhatMatters starting on January 22nd.
The Rethink Campaign Contest will run for nine weeks total, with the first set of Rethink questions going out on 1.22.10 (Week 1) and the last set of Rethink questions going out on 3.19.10 (Week 9). The contest will end on 3.26.10.

For the past 2 weeks I have had my behind kicked by Denise Austin. Ha Ha Denise's Daily Dozen The Easy, Every Day Program to lose up to 12 pounds in 2 weeks is exactly that. First let me tell you a little more about the book.
From the back of the book: Denise Austin shares the perfect plan for anyone who wants to live better and lose weight but can't seem to find the time. Denise's Daily Dozen covers a whole range of health and diet related concepts managed in a no-stress, time-conscious program of "twelves" to keep you flexible, strong, trim, and feeling great about yourself. Denise knows these methods work because she uses them personally to stay fit and looking fabulous, and they've worked for countless others, too!
I love that everything is written up in "twelves". There are 12 exercises for each day and it will only take you 12 minutes to get them done each day. That is it, 12 minutes, not 30 minutes for cardio and another 30 minutes of something else. The book is broke down into 7 chapters, one for each of the days of the week, so easy to follow.
I started on a Monday, so I turned to the Monday chapter and followed the 12 exercises, along with the menu plan for that day. I will be honest I had to switch up the menus which was easily done with the extras that Denise has thrown in there.
Not only do you get everything written out for you in easy to follow directions, there are so many other "twelves" in the book including A dozen tips to boost your motivation to eat right and exercise. Believe me I used a lot of the extra "twelves". Ha Ha
Before you start an exercise program, always get the O.K. from your Doctor. I was happy when my doctor did not end up in heart failure from laughing at me when I brought the book in, in order to get the ok to start. The fact is that I am in no way overweight but my goal is to get back in shape not to lose weight. After having my 4 kidlets, some things are just not where I would like them to be and I always felt that I did not have the time to exercise. Seriously this is the perfect book to get you started or to keep you on track. I did end up losing 1 lb, but if you could feel the way I do now, you would understand how great this book is.
Another thing to do before you start a program is to make sure you have any extras, for me I had to get a new pair of shoes, 2 sets of weights (I didn't want to use cans this time), and really that is all I had to get.
After my 2 weeks, which ended yesterday something has changed and that is ME!! I am feeling better about my every day life and plan on continuing with this book, but I am also adding in another challenge for myself and that is running.
Thanks to The Hachette Book Group I have 3 copies of this book to give away to my wonderful readers.

Skylar is the two year old daughter of a member of the Army, who lives in Alaska and is in acute liver failure. She was med-flighted to Seattle and has been put on the transplant list. Due to financial constraints, Jessica, her mother, can't get to Skylar. I am calling out to all of you for help.
I think the most heartbreaking for me is that she does not have her Mommy with her. They have found out that it will cost about $3000 to get her Mom to her from Alaska. This all started on the 14th when Skylar started going into liver failure. She was airlifted to Anchorage, AK. She received a blood transfusion and for a few days things started to look better, but just as things started looking up, they fell apart and now she is in Seattle, WA.
Any donations can be made to the Paypal account: email@example.com. PLEASE make sure you have it set as a gift and in the subject line put SKYLAR FUND. Amy (the owner of the account) will send you a receipt for your "gift". I know money is tight for so many of us, but every dollar can help.
Here is the FaceBook page set up for Skylar. Help For Skylar
Please!! If you pray, keep this baby girl in your prayers.
This is what i am going to do, For every comment left on this post I will donate $1per comment up to $100 to help. If you donate to help this baby girl's mommy get to her, leave me a comment and for those comments I will donate $5 per comment up to $100. That is a possible $200 to help this family from my family.
Bless all of you. Thank You for the prayers and thoughts for Skylar.

Softbums has another idea. Here you can donate diapers to Haiti or you can buy some for yourself and Softbums will match it and send it to Haiti. Amazing!!
Here on their facebook page someone had left a comment about no one really being able to wash the diapers and other things are more important. Diapers are very important. If a disposable diaper gets wet, it swells up 3 times the size and ends up busting open getting the gel stuff all over. I feel it would be more sanitary to have nice cloth diapers that after the days of putting ones life back together, can still be used. Cloth diapers can be washed a number of ways and I feel the mothers will find a way.
I will stop now, but if you are looking to add to your cloth diaper stash or you just want to help, then head over to SoftBums and let them match what you buy.

To determine if a specific product is part of this voluntary recall, consumers should examine product packaging for expiration date codes between November 2010 and January 2011. These dates are printed as the first seven characters of a 15-character string, as illustrated in the accompanying illustration.
Less than half of one percent of the products sold to date is affected by this packaging defect; no other products sold by the company are affected. As standard practice for Nurture, all products sold are sent to a laboratory for food safety testing prior to market release and no harmful bacteria have been detected in damaged packages to date.
One consumer complaint was received regarding swollen and leaking pouches, and no illnesses have been reported. The company has worked quickly with the manufacturer to identify the cause of the malfunction and the issue has been resolved.
"We are committed to ensuring our organic foods are not only delicious, convenient, and as healthy as possible, but also delivered in the highest quality, dependable package for our youngest consumers," says Shazi Visram, Nurture, Inc.'s Founder and CEO. "As a mother-to-be expecting my first child to arrive any day now, I know firsthand how critical it is for parents to have complete confidence in the foods they serve their children. We stand behind our mission to provide only the very best, which is why we have taken the measure to voluntarily recall these products."
Nurture has worked with the contract manufacturer and the US Food and Drug Administration to resolve the matter.
While no illness has been reported, consumers who have purchased affected products should not consume or serve any swollen or leaky pouches and may return them to their place of purchase for a full refund or contact Nurture Inc directly for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions and would like more detailed information are encouraged to contact Nurture, Inc. at 212-374-2779, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.

I think I know why I leave so many pictures on my camera, it is because when I finally put them on my computer, something like this happens.
Right now I am on my husband's lap top (which usually he is on playing WoW) So I may get somethings posted, but I have all these not so nice feelings towards my laptop that is not even a year old. The end of Feb. makes my Lap Top 1 year old.
What computer are you using? I figured I could take this time to get suggestions since there is a small chance that a new computer is in my future. (Sorry hubby I know that this year was suppose to be your year to get a new laptop) Oops. lol
I mostly just wanted to write this to let my followers know that I am still alive and will be posting up a storm hopefully within a few days. In the meantime, it will be a post here and there until I have my computer back.

New Year, New Beginnings!! I have gotten away from Menu Plan Monday, no real excuse, just got lazy I guess. Although I did plan my meals out, I just got lazy in the posting of the menus. Do you plan out your meals or you are interested in making a change and starting this? Every week MPM is hosted at org. junkie There you can learn about MPM and link up your own menu post.
This week will consist of 2 menus as I am trying something different for myself. I will post the menu that my family will be eating since I will have a second post with what I am up to.
Here we go:
Monday: Ravioli Rescue, garlic bread, and corn
Tuesday: Beef & Cheese Enchiladas
Wednesday: Beef Stroganoff and green beans
Thursday: Sweet & Sour Chicken
Friday: Chicken Parmesan and corn
Saturday: Pizza, cake, and ice cream We are celebrating my daughter's birthday with friends even though her birthday is today the 4Th.
Sunday: Pork Chops, potatoes, and corn
Look for a second post later today with my menu on it and don't forget to head over and link up your own MPM here
Do you eat breakfast? I have always stressed to my children the importance of breakfast, but I will admit that I rarely eat anything in the morning. Just like the change of the year, I have begun a change in my house. New rule: Everyone will eat some type of breakfast.
General Mills is making this new rule an easy change with their commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. To me cereal is a quick breakfast, but used to be full of way too much sugar. Now my children can have a quick kick start to their day and I no longer have to worry about them being overloaded on the sugar front.
What do you know about cereals? Do you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters? Also, Cereals deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children’s diets.
Other cereal benefits:
Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets.
Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today.
More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.
Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.
Now we home school, but I do notice that if the kidlets skip breakfast they end up having a horrible day. So I tend to lean toward agreeing with the 1998 study.
Right now you can go over here and get a coupon for $1.00 off.
You can also learn a ton about the benefits of Breakfast cereals here
I do have one wish for General Mills and that is to find a different red dye to use. Although this is not the same for every family but around here the kidlets have red dye #40 very rarely. My children have learned that things don't need color to taste good.
General Mills provided me with the VIP coupons and all information through MyBlogSpark. All opinions are my own and I know not everyone will agree.
